TransOlympic Engineering Inc.

TransOlympic Engineering Inc. Background

History

While TransOlympic Engineering is a relatively new firm, we have extensive professional engineering experience. While with my prior firm, I designed commercial, government and residential projects, including new construction, remodels, upgrades, site design, drainage, waterfront bulkheads, retaining walls, pile supported foundations and multi-story buildings using materials such as timber, concrete, steel, and masonry.  My expertise is seismic and wind analysis, designing for both new and existing structures.  I can also provide code review for local cities and counties, and I am intimately familiar with the 2012 IBC.

When problems arise, I can arrive on site, usually within one hour, to troubleshoot and solve problems.  I am flexible in my scheduling, so if work needs to be performed in the evening to minimize traffic delays or other impacts, I can work to meet your needs. My desire is to serve you in a cost efficient manner as you work to achieve your project goals.  Let me briefly explain my firm’s capabilities.

Capabilities

I founded TransOlympic Engineering, Inc. and am a licensed Structural and Civil Engineer.  With over 22 years of engineering expertise to draw upon, I can quickly evaluate options and propose solutions to engineering problems.  I assist clients to avoid costly pitfalls while still achieving design goals.  I am very familiar with the local standards and regulations in Southwest Washington, the Puget Sound Region and the State of Washington.  I am well versed in local civil engineering, storm water, geotechnical, seismic and wind issues, as well as the 2012 International Building Code (IBC).

In design, I use the most up-to-date software to model, design and evaluate projects.  My structural analysis and design software includes RISA-3D, Enercalc, and other material specific programs.  When it comes to drafting and detailing our work, I work with drafters using AutoCAD, Revit and other Autodesk products.

To coordinate drawings, or to exchange files and correspondence with members of the design team, I can send drawings by email or use a file transfer (.ftp) protocol on the web.  This saves costs, and many hours waiting on overnight couriers.

When called for, I can team with other sub-consultants to provide services such as surveying, architectural, mechanical and electrical design. These firms are experts in land use, space planning, remodeling, HVAC, roofing, accessibility and the latest building codes.

My construction administration experience includes scheduling, evaluating payment requests, change orders, reviewing shop drawings, civil and structural site observation and problem solving.  I can work closely with local testing and inspection firms to provide required inspection and quality control services when necessary.

Overall, TransOlympic Engineering has the structural and civil design experience, the knowledge and the tools to assist you to successfully complete your projects.  My goal is to have the job completed on time, within budget and to have a happy, repeat client.

New City of Westport Viewing Tower - 2011
After doing a condition and seismic analysis of the existing 30 year old Viewing Tower, and finding severe deterioration, I was retained to provide structural and civil site design services for the new tower immediately adjacent to the Pacific Ocean.  Challenges included location in a highly critical seismic area, a design wind speed of over 100 mph, as well as being in a severely corrosive marine environment.
